Operations Intern, Fall 2019 (unpaid)

INTERNSHIP TITLE: Operations Intern (unpaid)  

REPORTS TO: Vice President Warehouse Operations             

DEPARTMENT: Operations                          

LOCATION: Greater Cleveland Food Bank, 15500 South Waterloo Rd., Cleveland, Ohio 44110

DATE: Summer 2018                   

INTERNSHIP PROJECT: Policy/Procedure Standardization

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING:

  •  Work with Director of Warehouse Operations on putting existing Documents, Work Instructions, and Standardized Operating Procedures into standardized format
    •  Assist with Warehouse Operations Management team in creating Documents, Work Instructions, and Standardized Operating Procedures for daily tasks
  •  As part of continuous improvement initiative, walk through all of the steps in each Work Instruction / Document to make sure able to complete and easily understood and identify areas to be corrected
    •  Spend time in each area of warehouse operations and document any areas where bottlenecks or process breakdowns are occurring
    •  Assist in Repack room layout and identify ways to improve volunteer experience in Repack / Retail
    •  Attend Weekly Operations Meetings, Produce and Perishable meetings, Safety meetings and Systems meetings to get a better understanding of the day-to-day operations of the food bank

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  Basic computer knowledge and skills. Basic Microsoft Office skills with Word and Excel.
  •  Excellent organizational skills
  •  Ability to work independently on assigned tasks
  •  Commitment to addressing issues of food insecurity

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  •  Ability to work up to 15 hours per week within business hours (8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday)
  •  Communicating effectively with people in person as well as via telephone and email
  •  Using a computer to create written communication
