Director of Warehouse Operations

SUMMARY

Manages, directs and coordinates the day-to-day activities of inbound and outbound warehouse activities, repack operations, coordination and distribution of fresh produce and safety. Performance of the following duties is done personally or through subordinate managers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is not all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Directs organization's daily warehouse operations, ensuring efficient and productive staffing assignments and other resources allocation. Uses production planning methods to develop effective schedules and plans.
  • Ensures that labor is being allocated in a manner appropriate for the daily demand on the departments and consistent with Food Bank priorities.
  • Analyze existing processes and work-flows, identify problems or bottlenecks, account for variances, drive root-cause analysis and implement improved methods and procedures.
  • Maintain KPI programs and actively create action plans based on observed results.
  • Drive high performance for key performance metrics: Inventory accuracy, warehouse productivity and optimal space utilization.
  • Acts in the capacity of backup to the VP of Operations in his/her absence.
  • Participates in and promotes interdepartmental communication and adequate information flow within the Food Bank.
  • Participates in the creation of the department's operational budget and approves and analyzes departmental expenditures to maintain budget guidelines.
  • Assists with the coordination of plans for further development of existing and future programs to increase the output and efficiency of programmatic activities in keeping with demand for various kinds of food assistance.
  • Assists in evaluating the results of each area of operations and systematically reports these results to the VP of Operations.
  • Assists in the development of operating policies consistent with the executive director's broad policies and objectives and ensures their execution.
  • Ensures that all operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations.
  • Follows and maintains high standards of warehouse sanitation and safety at all times. Ensure that we are compliant with the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Feeding America and AIB maintenance regulations at all times.
  • Maintains required job knowledge and skills and core professional competencies. Attends and participates in required educational programs and staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages subordinate Managers and Supervisors who oversee Repack and Salvage, Inventory and Receiving, Order Fulfillment and produce and perishable distributions. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

Five to seven years supervisory experience in a warehousing or transportation environment, and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. College degree preferred. Previous nonprofit operational management experience preferred.
